The Pound
I adopted your dog today.
The one you left at the pound,
the one you had for seven years
and no longer wanted around.
I adopted your dog today.
Do you know he's lost weight?
Do you know he's scared and depressed
and has lost all faith?
I adopted your dog today.
He had fleas and a cold,
but don't worry about it.
You've unburdened your load.
I adopted your dog today.
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop
allergies or was there no reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your dog today.
He doesn't play or eat much.
He's very depressed,
but he will learn to trust again.
I adopted your dog today.
And here he will stay.
He's found his forever home
and a warm bed on which to lay.
I adopted your dog today.
And I will give him all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully he will forget your selfish deed.

Sponsor a Project
The following are our large project goals for the end of year 2009. Please consider supporting a project either by fundraising, volunteering or both.
FOR THE CAT LOVER
Project
Upon visiting our shelter, you will notice that we do not like to place our cats in metal cages all day. Due to financial support and volunteers, we were able to build two indoor cat pens with a tunnel that connects the two. We receive such positive comments about our pens from visitors! But any cat lover knows that cats must have sun to be completely healthy! Our indoor cat runs are basically in a "dungeon" setting with no windows. While a window would suffice for one or two cats at a time, we want all our cats to enjoy the great outdoors. It will also alleviate the congestion in our other pens.
Our Vision: Our goal is to break through the front wall of our building with another tunnel. The cat pen will actually be visible to visitors as they pull up to our facility. It will be completely concreted with a double door to prevent escape maneuvers from some of our slicker residents. Of course, we look to have a solid tree stump, plenty of shelving and pvc drainage. We anticipate bringing the cats in during the night for their protection.

Cost Estimate: We estimate the project to cost $1,000.00. This will cover the cost of concreting an 8 foot by 18 foot pen, wood, building materials, doors and hardware, wire, shelving and roofing material.
Status to date: We have a building volunteer coordinator seeking as many volunteers as possible to build the catrun.
If you are interest in running a fundraising project to specifically cover the cost of this project, please email our volunteer coordinator or call 876-3647.
Other Ways To Help: Assist us in saving cost and please consider donations of any of the below items:
Treated 4 x 4s - 10 or 12 foot
Treated 2 x 4s - 8 foot and 6 foot
Building Material - nails, screws, brackets
Concrete Quikrete - 80 bags (54 bags)
9 Tin Sheets (8-10 feet long)
7 Roofing slabs at 8ft
Shelving material
PVC piping at 4 or 6 inches - 10 foot long
Lending us a concrete mixer for a day
Currently our shelter shares a bathroom facility with the Animal Control office located in the same building. This possess a tremendous risk to cross contamination of parvo, FIV and other contagious diseases to our pets.
Our Vision: To build a brick facility next to our dog shed which will require a three sided brick wall, drainage, electrical hook up, concrete and plumbing.
Cost Estimate: We estimate the project to cost $1,500.00 if we can receive donations of cinder blocks.
Status to date: We have a building volunteer coordinator seeking as many volunteers as possible to build the facility (not including electrical work).
We currently have a sink and a toilet bowel donated.
If you are interest in running a fundraising project to specifically cover the cost of this project, please email our volunteer coordinator or call 876-3647.
Other Ways To Help: Assist us in saving cost and please consider donations of any of the below items:
Electrical supplies - under ground wiring (pvc coated), wall switches, outdoor electrical outlets
Bathroom light fixture.
Bathroom Mirror
PVC piping at 1 1/2 inch, 2 inch and 4 inch, t-s, right angle Cinder Blocks
Concrete
Mortar Mix
The Liberty Humane Shelter is provided community service from participating law enforcement facilities. With our staff, regular volunteers and community service personnel, our office space (approximately 16 x 16) is not sufficient to handle such a load. It is not only a fire hazard, it is nearly impossible for our staff to accomplish intake of new animals, medication, pet adoptions and assisting customers
Our Vision: To raise enough money to purchase a building for a volunteer break room which will provide air-condition and heat. This will enable our volunteer coordinator an office space which will absolutely consolidate and manage our precious volunteer resources in a more efficient manner.
A building similar to this with insulation.

Cost Estimate: We estimate the project to cost $4,000.00 - $10,000.00 and feel it would be cheaper to purchase a building than to begin from scratch.
Status to date: None
If you are interest in running a fundraising project to specifically cover the cost of this project, please email our volunteer coordinator or call 876-3647.

Electrical supplies - under ground wiring (pvc coated), wall switches, outdoor electrical outlets
Light fixtures.
Window Air-Condition Unit
When you visit our facility, you will see that there is a half block wall which separates us from Animal Control's dog pens. Due to airborne transmission of disease, we are seeking to enclose the remaining wall.

Cost Estimate: We estimate the project to cost $400.00 for purchase of cinder blocks, mortar, paint and painting supplies.
Status to date: We expect this to be an all day project and would prefer to have a professional mason install the wall, but we are prepared to complete it ourselves if necessary.
